The Shining is Stanley Kubrick's 1980 classic adaptation of Stephen King's novel from a few years earlier. Stephen King didn't like it very much at first, but it's gone down as one of the all-time great horror movies. King's book is undeniably supernatural, but Kubrick's adaptation is decidedly more focused on human nature. Or maybe it's about ghosts too? We never really got to the bottom of that but we sure did talk a lot about it.
